The following are events related to the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) that took place on this day.

 

2003

  • Operation Abalone in Iraq

2004

  • An advance party of Marines from 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, from Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, left for Afghanistan. The rest of the nearly 1,000 Marines would follow several weeks later, replacing Marines from 3d Battalion, 6th Marines, in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
