Sgt. 1st Class Alejandro Granado III, aged 42, from Fairfax, Va., served in the 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne), belonging to the Mississippi Army National Guard, located in Jackson, Miss. He was killed in action on August 2 in Qole Gerdsar, Afghanistan, due to injuries he received when his vehicle was ambushed by insurgents using an improvised explosive device. Killed in the same attack were Capt. Ronald G. Luce Jr. and Sgt. 1st Class Severin W. Summers III.
