He was the 1,974th U.S. death in the war that started October 7, 2001, and the 3,000th overall death from the U.S.-led international coalition engaged in Operation Enduring Freedom.
Obituary:
Petty Officer 1st Class Ryan J. Wilson, 26, of Shasta, Calif., died of complications associated with a medical condition May 20 in Manama, Bahrain. Wilson was assigned to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command headquarters in Bahrain. Ryan, beloved husband, father, son, and brother, entered into eternal life on May 20, 2012 after taking ill while serving his country as a Petty Officer 1st Class in Bahrain. Ryan served as a Leading Intelligence Specialist, assigned to the United States Naval Forces Central Command supporting the Afghanistan Mission. Ryan was a decorated sailor who earned the following awards and commendations; Ryan graduated from Shasta High School in 2004 then earned his Bachelors degree in Satellite Imagery while serving his country. He recently started working on a Masters Degree in Geospatial Engineering.
Ryan is survived by his wife and a 2 year old son, Mother and Father; James and Tracie, brother and sister; Heather and Reece, Maternal Grandmother Yvonne Anderson and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Services will be held on June 2, 2012, starting at 2 pm at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA followed by a celebration of life starting 3:30 pm at First United Methodist Church at the corner of East and South Street, Redding CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Ryan James Wilson to First Christian Church, 3590 Placer Street, Redding CA, 96001.
