Obituary:
ANTHONY BUTTERFIELD United States Marine Corps “Tony” Tony began his life on earth on May 4, 1987, in Fresno, California. He was taken from us on Saturday, July 29, 2006. It is a date which will be remembered in our hearts as the day our hero was sent to live another life in Heaven. Tony attended Garfield Elementary School, Alta Sierra Middle School and Buchanan High School. For those fortunate enough to know Tony, they’ll remember how much he loved his family, his friends, his grandmas cooking, volleyball, soccer, anywhere on the beach, and most of all he loved the Marines. He had a laugh which was one of a kind, and a smile which was contagious. He brought joy and love to many lives. He loved children and had a way about him, a presence which made them listen, learn and enjoy his stories. He had decided before his senior year that the U.S. Marine Corps would be his home after graduation, so after receiving his diploma in June he immediately left for boot camp to train with ‘The Few and The Proud’. He was assigned to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as a scout based out of Twenty-nine Palms, California, making many friends throughout all of his training. He deployed to Iraq on March 4, 2006, to serve in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tony made the ultimate sacrifice for the country that he loved. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Purple Heart. He finished his journey on earth a confident, honorable Marine, a Hero and a Man. Semper Fi. Because Tony so loved Disneyland, we have decided he would have no greater joy than to send a child and their family there each year. He is survived by his parents, Keith and Robin Butterfield; his older sister, Britney Hunt and her husband Glen; his older brother, Jeremy Butterfield; his younger sister, Bailey Butterfield; his grandparents, Bruce and Glenda Butterfield, Kay and Jack Pruett, and Ed and Paula Robinson; his aunts and uncles include Rene and Steve Mooshagian and their children Janaye, Bobby and Danielle, Teri Richey and her children Jared and Jourdan, and Eddie and Kristi Robinson and their children Danika and Rylee, all of Fresno, California. He also had numerous other great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, relatives and many, many friends. A Funeral Service will be held at Clovis Hills Church on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Clovis District Cemetery. A reception at New Hope Church in Clovis will follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Tony’s name to Wish Upon a Star Foundation, PO Box 4000, Visalia, California. BOICE FUNERAL HOME308 Pollasky, Clovis 299-4372
