TSA Pre-check Expands to Students of 4 U.S. Service Academies

U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Coast Guard Academy and Air Force Academy cadets/midshipmen now eligible for expedited screening

WASHINGTON — As the result of the ongoing partnership with the Department of Defense, the Transportation Security Administration has extended TSA Pre-check expedited screening benefits to students of four U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Coast Guard Academy and Air Force Academy.

Cadets and midshipmen of these four academies are now able to enjoy the benefits of this expedited screening program at more than 120 participating airports when flying on 11 major airlines.

“This week, as we recognize veterans of our armed forces, we are grateful to the brave men and women in uniform who continue to serve our nation with honor and distinction,” said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. “Providing expedited screening while on travel is the least we can do for our military and service academies.”

James Winnefeld Jr., vice chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff. “From their enhanced veterans recruitment efforts to the expedited Wounded Warrior Screening Program, TSA continues to make a positive difference with our veterans. My personal thanks goes to TSA as they now expand TSA Pre-check expedited screening benefits to all United States Service Academy cadets and midshipmen — recognizing the dedication and commitment of those who step forward to protect this great nation in the future.”

Last year, TSA extended TSA Pre-check benefits to all U.S. Armed Forces service members, including those serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Reserves and National Guard. The same benefits now apply to cadets and midshipmen.

TSA Pre-check is an expedited screening program that allows participating flyers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag. On average, more than 50,000 DoD employees benefit from TSA Pre-check on a weekly basis.

Service members/students should use their DoD identification number to experience TSA Pre-check expedited screening. The DoD identification number must be entered in the known traveler number field in existing and future flight reservations, including airline frequent flyer profiles. TSA also has extended these expedited screening benefits to civilian DoD employees who follow an “opt-in” process online.

TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport. No individual will be guaranteed expedited screening. Travelers can check the TSA Pre-check participating airports page for information on TSA Pre-check lane locations.
