Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick M. Shanahan is Currently Visiting the Central Command Area of Responsibility

Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick M. Shanahan is currently visiting Afghanistan. While there he is meeting with President Ashraf Ghani, Abdullah Abdullah, chief executive of Afghanistan, and other Afghan officials to discuss a broad range of defense issues. The secretary is also meeting with Operation Resolute Support leaders and troops.
After his visit to the area, the secretary will travel to Brussels to attend the final NATO Defense Ministerial of 2019. He will meet with allied and partner nations to reinforce the need for equitable burden sharing, discuss implementation plans for key NATO Summit outcomes, and reinforce U.S. commitment to the NATO alliance.
