SECDEF Appoints New Convening Authority for Military Commissions

Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper designated Col. Jeffrey D. Wood to serve as the Convening Authority for Military Commissions, April 17. The appointment allows returning to the past practice of a single convening authority for all cases. Christian L. Reismeier will continue to serve as the Director of the Office of the Convening Authority for Military Commissions.

Col. Wood serves as the Staff Judge Advocate for the Arkansas National Guard in a dual status federal technician Attorney Advisor position. In 2018, Governor Asa Hutchinson appointed him to serve as the State Judge Advocate for the Arkansas National Guard.
