CENTCOM Commander visits Uzbekistan

U.S. Central Command Commander General David Petraeus visited Tashkent Feb. 16 and 17, to listen to Uzbekistan’s perspective on key regional security issues. The meetings with key Uzbekistan leaders focused on the best approaches to addressing these challenges, particularly Afghanistan. As the Commander of the United States Central Command, General Petraeus routinely travels to the countries in his area of responsibility in order to maintain the best understanding of issues from these nations’ various perspectives. During this visit, he met with the President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov and senior Uzbek officials from the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs. They discussed a broad range of topics, including the security and stability of Afghanistan.
