U.S. Central Command commander visits Pakistan

Islamabad (April 8, 2011) — U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. James Mattis visited Pakistan to consult with Pakistan’s military leadership.
During his visit, Gen. Mattis met with Chief of the Army Staff, Gen. Ashfaq Kayani and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Wynne. They discussed the security assistance mission of the Office of the Defense Representative to Pakistan and exchanged views on regional security issues, including the coalition effort in Afghanistan. General Mattis and General Kayani reaffirmed their commitment to work closely together on common challenges.
Gen. Mattis also met with the new Charge d’Affairs, Richard Hoagland, and Embassy staff.
This is Gen Mattis’ third visit to Pakistan in his eight months as CENTCOM commander.
