Al-Harir Air Base, also known as Tallil Air Base, is a military installation located in the Dhi Qar province of southern Iraq. It is situated near the city of Nasiriyah, approximately 300 kilometers southeast of Baghdad.
The air base was originally constructed by the Iraqi Air Force in the 1980s and was later expanded by the United States following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. It served as a major hub for U.S. and coalition forces during the Iraq War and subsequent stabilization operations.
Al-Harir Air Base has a large runway capable of accommodating various military aircraft, including transport planes and helicopters. The base also features facilities for fuel storage, maintenance hangars, and warehouses.
Throughout its operation, Al-Harir Air Base was home to several different units. Notably, it hosted elements of the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, the 101st Airborne Division, and the 82nd Airborne Division, as well as units from other coalition countries.
The base played a vital role in supporting military operations in southern Iraq, including logistics, intelligence gathering, and air support missions. It also served as a staging point for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in the region.
Facilities at Al-Harir Air Base included housing units, dining facilities, medical facilities, and recreational areas for the military personnel stationed there. The base provided the necessary infrastructure to support the troops’ well-being and operational readiness.
