Camp Rustamiyah

4 views 0 May 16, 2023 Updated on June 17, 2023

Camp Rustamiyah (also known as FOB Rustamiyah) is a former military installation located in the eastern outskirts of Baghdad, Iraq. It was named after the nearby town of Rustamiyah. The camp was strategically situated along the Diyala River, providing access to important transportation routes and serving as a vital base for military operations.

Over the years, Camp Rustamiyah has been occupied by various military units during different phases of the Iraq War. Units assigned to Camp Rustamiyah included elements of the United States Army, specifically the 3rd Infantry Division, 101st Airborne Division, and 4th Infantry Division. These units played significant roles in securing the area, conducting combat operations, and supporting the Iraqi Security Forces.

The camp’s location, close to Baghdad, made it a crucial base for military operations aimed at establishing security and stability in the region. It provided a platform for coalition forces to conduct counterinsurgency operations, intelligence gathering, and training of Iraqi troops. Additionally, the camp supported logistical activities, such as supply distribution, maintenance, and administrative operations.

Camp Rustamiyah comprised various facilities to support the needs of military personnel. These facilities included barracks, dining facilities, medical facilities, administrative buildings, and recreational areas. The camp also had its own security measures in place to protect against potential threats.

Throughout its active years, Camp Rustamiyah witnessed the efforts of countless military personnel who dedicated themselves to the mission of supporting and securing the region. Their sacrifices, professionalism, and commitment to duty contributed to the overall mission success.
