ANA and Coalition forces kill Taliban commander in Farah Province

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army soldiers and Coalition forces conducted an early morning search of a suspected insurgent compound, Feb. 15, near the village of Khak-e-Safid in Farah Province. The search resulted in the killing of a Taliban commander.

When combined forces entered the compound, the militant had an AK-47 rifle aimed at them. Coalition forces fired on the subject in self-defense, killing him.

ANA and Coalition forces positively identified the militant as a known senior Taliban commander and weapons facilitator within Farah Province.

“The ANA are going to keep working with Coalition forces to increase the security of Afghanistan by removing Taliban extremists from their sanctuaries,” said Major Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the Afghan Ministry of Defense Chief spokesman.

No ANA, Coalition forces or civilian casualties were reported during this operation.
