Border incident investigation initiated

MACDILL AFB, Fla. (June 16, 2008) – Lt. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, Acting Commander U.S. Central Command, directed Friday that Maj. Gen. Jeffrey J. Schloesser, Commander, Combined Joint Task Force 101, assign a general officer to head the U.S. portion of an investigation, along with Pakistani and Afghan military officials, into the June 10, 2008, attack in the vicinity of the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
“Pakistan is a vital partner and ally in the region. We are deeply saddened by the reported loss of Pakistani lives and will investigate this incident thoroughly and completely,” said Dempsey.
This is an ongoing investigation, and we will release further information as it becomes available.
