FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
BAGHDAD – Coalition forces conducted strikes on a building being used by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant after they fired at Iraqi security forces in the vicinity of Khara’ib Jabr, a village south of Mosul, Iraq, Oct. 5, 2016.
The strikes were coordinated by, with and through the Government of Iraq in support of Iraqi security forces who requested the strike.
Initial battle damage assessment reports indicated that one building was destroyed and eight enemy fighters were killed.
“We are aware of the reports that Sunni tribal fighters were in the building that was struck and we are taking those reports seriously,” said a Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command – Operation Inherent Resolve spokesperson. “As a result, both the Coalition and the ISF are conducting a joint investigation on this incident.”
The Coalition takes extraordinary precautions to avoid friendly or civilian casualties, applying rigorous standards in its targeting processes, from a comprehensive analysis of all available intelligence to a careful selection of munitions.
