Release # 20150927-2
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SOUTHWEST ASIA – Coalition airstrikes destroyed multiple enemy targets near Hit and Kubaysah, Iraq in coordination with and in support of the Government of Iraq Sept. 26, 2015. The strikes attacked key ISIL targets in the Anbar province, including two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) production facilities, an ISIL headquarters building, and an ISIL staging area at the Kubaysah cement factory.
“The Coalition continues to attack Daesh tactical capability in Iraq,” said Col. Christopher Garver, Public Affairs Officer for CJTF-OIR. “By degrading Daesh’s capacity to produce dangerous IEDs and stage resources, we are setting the conditions in Anbar for the eventual liberation of the province by Iraqi Security Forces.”
The Coalition continues to systematically target the Daesh IED network because these weapons are a key component of ISIL tactics. IEDs of all types pose a major threat to ISF and indiscriminately kill civilians, which makes reducing Daesh’s capability to produce them that much more important.
The Coalition targeted only portions of the Kubaysah cement factory because those portions were being used by Daesh as a staging area for their fighters, equipment, and weapons. The Coalition takes great care to reduce collateral damage and preserve Iraqi infrastructure.
The destruction of these targets will further degrade ISIL’s ability to conduct operations in the Euphrates River Valley. These strikes are part of ongoing coalition operations in Anbar province to assist the Government of Iraq to degrade and ultimately defeat Daesh terrorists.
