Updated information on surrender of nine Taliban in Kunar

KABUL, Afghanistan (Jan. 15, 2010) – ISAF forces in eastern Afghanistan are assisting Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan representatives in the surrender of nine members of the insurgency yesterday in Marawarah district, Kunar province.
Reportedly, the nine men arrived at the compound of the Kunar governor to accept the offer of reconciliation they had heard on the radio.
Upon presenting themselves to local leaders, the former members of the insurgency turned in their personal weapons, one RPG, four AK 47s, eight RPG rounds, seven RPG boosters, 16 AK 47 loaded magazines and four chest rack systems.
