TAMPA, Fla. — The U.S. Central Command investigation into the attack on Bastion-Leatherneck-Shorabak Base (BLS) Complex, Afghanistan, on September 14-15, 2012, has been released and posted online at USCENTCOM’s Freedom of Information Act Reading Room. U.S. Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, U.S. Central Command commander, directed an investigation in May 2013 to determine potential accountability of U.S. personnel in relation to the attack on the BLS Complex. The investigating officer was U.S. Army Lt. Gen. William B. Garrett III and the deputy investigating officer was U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Murray. On Sept. 16, 2013, Gen. Austin approved the investigation findings and recommendations and the report was provided to the U.S. Marine Corps Commandant for any further action as appropriate.
