The following are events related to the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) that took place on this day.

2001

  • Alpha Team 572 links up with militia commanded by Mohammed Zaman Ghun Shareef and Hazarat Ali near Jalalabad preceding a planned assault on the cave complexes at Tora Bora.

2003

  • The 3d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) honored the 15 members they lost during Operation Iraqi Freedom at a ceremony at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station. Friends and family gathered as the names of the dead were read and Major General James F. Amos, air wing commander, addressed the crowd of 1,200. A bronze plaque with the 15 names was also placed at 3d MAW headquarters as a permanent reminder of those who died.
  • Operation Bayonet Lightning in Iraq

2005

  • Marines with 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, conducted Operation Shank in Ramadi, Iraq. The operation was the fifth in a series of operations by the Iraqi Army and Coalition Forces conducted to disrupt the insurgency.
