- Marines with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 261 (HMM-261) deployed to Al Asad Air Base in Iraq as the aviation combat element of the 22d MEU.
2006
- Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen James T. Conway, and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, SgtMaj John L. Estrada, visited with Marines throughout Al Anbar Province in Iraq. The pair spoke about ongoing current concerns within the Marine Corps as well as answering questions from junior Marines.
