DOD Releases Report on Enhancing Security and Stability in Afghanistan
June 17, 2016
Today the Department of Defense provided to Congress a report on “Enhancing Security and Stability in Afghanistan” covering events during the period from December 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016. The report was submitted in accordance with requirements in Section 1225 of the Fiscal 2015 National Defense Authorization Act as amended by Section 1530 of the Fiscal 2016 NDAA.
A resilient insurgency persists in Afghanistan and continues to pursue high levels of violence, yet the Afghan government remains in control of all major population centers and key lines of communication and the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) continue to deny the Taliban strategic ground throughout the country. The ANDSF increased their capabilities and demonstrated improvement in several areas throughout the reporting period.
