DOD TRANSFERS YASER ESAM HAMDI

The Department of Defense announced today that Yaser Esam Hamdi has been transferred from U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to the U.S. Naval Brig at Naval Station Norfolk, Va.

Given the likelihood that Hamdi is an American citizen, it was deemed appropriate to move him to the United States.

As a captured enemy combatant, Hamdi remains in the control of the Department of Defense.
