2005

  • XVIII Airborne Corps, under Lt. Gen. John R. Vines, replaces General Metz’s III Corps Staff as the MNC-I Headquarters.

2006

  • Almost 900 Marines with 2d Battalion, 2d Marines, returned from Iraq to Camp Lejeune, after being deployed to the area for seven months.
  • Start of Operation PitBull in Iraq
