Obituary:

Mr. Ronald Albert Ginther of Auburndale was a U.S. Navy reservist killed Sunday (May 2, 2004) while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was 37.Born July 20, 1966, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he moved here from Dover 13 years ago. He was an electro-mechanic at Pepperidge Farms. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of A New Beginning Church, Auburndale. Mr. Ginther is survived by his wife, Donna Faye Ginther, Auburndale; daughters, Alayna Ginter, Auburndale and Kayla Tuten, Plant City; stepsons, Joe Shepherd, Lakeland and Justin Shepherd, Auburndale; father, James R. Ginther, Dover; mother, Darleen L. Ginther, Dover; brothers, Ray and Donnie Ginther, both of Plant City, Billy Ginther, McLeansville, N.C., and Jimmy Ginther, Lakeland. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Oak Ridge Funeral Care

Information:

Petty Officer Ronald “Ronnie” Ginther had been in Iraq less than a month as a member of the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14 from Tampa. Ginther was killed on May 2 at Camp Fallujah in the Al Anbar province near Ramadi. He was among dozens of Seabees gathered in the yard of a Marine base for a visit from Rear Adm. Charles Kubic. One mortar round struck about 300 yards away, but the second made a near direct hit. Ginther, four other Seabees and an Army soldier were killed.
