The following are events related to the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) that took place on this day.

2005

  • Start of Battle of Al-Qa’im in Iraq

2007

  • The Article 32 hearing for the first of four officers facing charges for failing to properly investigate the 19 November 2005 killings of over two dozen Iraqi citizens in Haditha, Iraq, was convened at Camp Pendleton. Capt Randy W. Stone, a military lawyer, faced dereliction of duty charges. Three weeks later, on 30 May, the highest ranking officer facing charges, LtCol Jeffrey Chessani, also was in court for an Article 32 hearing. LtCol Chessani was the commanding officer of 3d Battalion, 1st Marines, at the time of the slayings and also under investigation for failing to properly look into the actions of the Marines.
