NASCAR Sponsors Support ESGR Anniversary
June 18, 2003
NASCAR Sponsors will sign a statement of support for the National Guard and Reserve during the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) 31st Anniversary Celebration on June 20, 2003, at 2 p.m. EDT in the Pentagon Courtyard.
According to ESGR’s Executive Director, Bob Hollingsworth, “NASCAR is joining the growing numbers of America’s employers that pledge support for our troops. A statement of support serves two very vital functions. First, it demonstrates the strong level of support for our Guard and Reserve, which is important during this critical time. Second, it sends a clear message to the servicemembers that while they’re serving their country, they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs.”
The statement is a pledge from an organization to publicly support their Guard and Reserve members and follow the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). USERRA requires that employers not deny employment to an individual who is a member of the Guard or Reserve; not limit or reduce employee job or career opportunities because they are a member of the Guard or Reserve; allow Guard and Reserve members time off for military training; and, make these policies well-known throughout the organization.
ESGR is a Department of Defense agency whose mission is to gain and maintain employer support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve. ESGR operates through a network of more than 4,200 volunteers throughout 55 committees located in each state, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Europe.
