Obituary:

U. S. ARMY STAFF SGT. CHRISTOPHER JAMES SCHORNAK, age 28 of Franklin, Kentucky was reported killed Sunday, February 26 in central Baghdad. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home in Franklin where services will be held Tuesday at 2 pm with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with full military honors. He was a native of Marietta GA and the son of Jim & Lesley Schornak of Ashville, Alabama. He was a graduate of Pope High School in Georgia and an Eagle Scout. He was served with the 1/12th Infantry, Fourth Brigade, Fourth ID out of Ft. Hood, Texas and was attached to a Ft. Campbell unit. He was the recipient of numerous commendations including the Bronze Star Medal w/combat, distinguishing device (V), Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge. Survivors Include his wife – Robyn Schornak of Franklin; 1 son – Tristan Schornak of Franklin; 1 sister – Susan Milner and husband Dan of Navarre, Florida; 1 sister-in-law – Heather Crawford of Franklin; 1 brother-In law – Joshua Durham of St. Mary’s, Georgia; 2 half brothers-In-law – Shaun and Kyle Mink of Cross Plains, Tennessee; maternal grandparents – Ken & Barbara Smith of Marietta, GA.; paternal grandfather – Cliff Schornak of Marietta, GA; mother in-law – Janet Eve of Franklin. Several aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 9 pm Monday and after 6 am Tuesday at Crafton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Army Emergency Relief- Department of the Army – 200 Stovall Street – Alexandria, Virginia 22332-0600 and/or any USO.
