The following are events related to the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) that took place on this day.

2004

  • Sgt Gary Pittman, a reservist with 2d Battalion, 25th Marines, was convicted by court-martial in connection with the death of an Iraqi detainee in 2003. He was sentenced to 60 days’ hard labor and reduction in rank to private, but was allowed to remain in the Marine Corps.

2006

  • Start of Operation Medusa in Afghanistan

2008

  • Raid Report – September 02, 2008

2018

  • Army General John M. Nicholson passed command of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission and U.S. Forces Afghanistan to Army General Austin S. Miller during a ceremony in Kabul, Afghanistan.26 General Miller emphasized to coalition troops that what they are doing in Afghanistan makes their own countries and citizens safer. The “train, advise, assist” mission allows Afghan security forces to take the fight to the enemy, and to give the Afghan government the security needed to provide stability and no longer a safe haven for terrorists.
