Obituary:

SPC Lee Allen Wiegand, 20, of Great Bend, Pa., was killed September 28, 2005 while serving with the National Guard in Iraq. Lee is survived by his wife, Jessica Wiegand, and baby girl, Jordan Marie, both of Great Bend, Pa.; along with their extended family. Also surviving is his father, Scott Wiegand, Great Bend; mother, Salli Warner, Hallstead, Pa.; a close sister, Kelly Rose and husband, Jason, Allentown, Pa.; grandparents, Clyde, a retired Navy veteran, and Marilyn Wiegand, Fla., Leon, a retired Air Force veteran, and Pearl Warner, Hallstead, Pa.; great-grandmother, Ethel Allard, Newark, N.Y.; a very special aunt, uncle, and cousin, Jim, Rose, and Jamie Atkinson, Hallstead, Pa.; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also left behind many, many wonderful friends. Words can’t express how much he will be missed by all. He was proud to serve his country. Lee was a 2003 graduate of Blue Ridge high School and signed with the Guard in 2002. He enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

A funeral service will be held at United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, Pa. Saturday, October 8, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Donald Littleton officiating. Interment will be in Lawsville Cemetery. The family will receive callers Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jordan Marie Wiegand Education Fund, People’s National Bank, P.O. Box A, Hallstead, Pa. 18822. Arrangements by Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, Pa.

A RESOLUTION

Expressing condolences on the death of United States Army Specialist Lee A. Wiegand.

WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Lee A. Wiegand was killed when an improvised explosive device exploded under his M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle near Ramadi, Iraq, on September 28, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Wiegand was a resident of Great Bend, Susquehanna County, and was assigned to the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division, New Milford; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Wiegand was a gregarious young man as well as a dependable employee who always had time to help others; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Wiegand had an excellent sense of humor and a talent for drawing and making people laugh; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Wiegand is survived by his wife, Jessica, and newborn daughter, Jordan; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Wiegand will be posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express condolences on the death of United States Army Specialist Lee A. Wiegand and honor his life and the ultimate sacrifice he made; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the family of the late Spc. Lee A. Wiegand.
