The following are events related to the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) that took place on this day.

2002

  • Start of Operation Jacana in Afghanistan

2005

  • End of Operation Scrimmage in Iraq

2006

  • Operation Larchwood 4 in Iraq

2007

  • Operation Eagle Lightning in Iraq

2008

  • The Department of Defense (DOD) approved the wearing of campaign stars on the Afghanistan and Iraq Campaign Medals for service members who have been on multiple deployments to those areas. One campaign star may be worn for participation in each of the campaign phases designated by DOD. Marine Administrative Message 299/08 (MARADMIN 299/08) was released on 20 May 2008 with the inclusive dates.
