FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve’s partner, the Iraqi Security Forces eliminated an ISIS fighter and senior leader known as “Katkut,” during an operation on Nov. 21, in Salah ad Din province, Iraq.

The Salah ad Din Operations Command dispatched forces to pursue and capture ISIS militants which had recently conducted a rocket attack. The ISF killed Katkut as he was fleeing from the scene.

Katkut previously operated out of Al Hadr, an area southwest of Mosul. He also led an ISIS mortar detachment. His attacks resulted in the deaths and injuries of Iraqi civilians and security forces; they also induced damage and destruction to infrastructure within Salah ad Din and Ninewah provinces.

“The removal of Katkut disrupts ISIS’s leadership chain and reduces their ability to conduct terrorist attacks both within the region and abroad,” said Brig. Gen. David Doyle, CJTF-OIR director of operations.

CJTF-OIR works by, with and through partner forces in designated areas of Iraq and Syria to achieve the enduring defeat of ISIS and sets conditions for follow-on operations to increase regional security.
