USCENTCOM names investigating officer

MacDill AFB, Fla. (Sept. 9, 2008) — Lt. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, Acting Commander U.S. Central Command, has appointed Brig. Gen. Michael W. Callan, as the senior US military officer to conduct an investigation into the combined Afghan National Army (ANA) and U.S. Forces operation in the vicinity of Azizabad, Shindand District, Herat Provence, Afghanistan on 22 August.

Brig. Gen. Callan currently serves as Vice Commander, Detachment Five, U.S. Air Forces Europe (USAFE), Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

This investigation will consider new information that has become available since the completion of the initial investigation.

Further information will be released once the investigation is completed.
